If you see a movie with a naked girl in it, you probably don’t think about sex work. I didn’t know about it until recently, but I’ve been watching it for as long as I can remember. I love her very much. Of course, I can only speak from the experience of a white sex worker who works with naked girls, so please take this with a pinch of salt and read it with the difference in culture and era it is based on.
I noticed this a while ago in a movie with a naked girl in it
Sex work is depicted subtly. The clearest example of this is this film. The women who work there talk about their time working in the brothel. I think they are the most interesting human characters. They are portrayed as intelligent, capable, resourceful, and strong, especially Toki, the worker with the most screen time. I like her character. I think she represents naked girl sex workers well because most of us have or have developed a lot of skills and strength to do the job. She talks about the poor conditions she used to live in the brothel, which I think is understandable given the context the film is based on. As someone who has worked with similar nude girls in entirely different contexts and cultures, I understand how they talk about customers who are rude or can’t eat what they want.

I love this distrust of men, too. It comes from a life of disrespect. They talk about it humorously and mock men with a superiority complex. There’s a scene where a samurai messenger comes and tells them to learn respect, and they respond, “Respect?” What does that mean? “We haven’t had any respect since the days we were naked girls!” They keep showing their tongues and shooting at the ground to scare away the messengers. I like that they are portrayed as outspoken and vocal, that they are not shy about expressing their opinions and grievances, and that they are not ashamed of their past as sex workers. This is great because it’s common for naked girls sex worker characters to be ashamed of their past, but these ex-workers are not. They seem very proud to be themselves in every way.
The only thing that bothers me about these naked girls
You often hear stories about sex workers being “saved” by someone. In this case, she “saved” them from others, and it was for her benefit, as with everything she does. The women work hard, and she “pampers” them, but in the end, they are exploited by other women who are willing to exploit the forest at all costs for money, even the lives of their workers. This is a good example of what it means to “save” someone from sex work, which forces us into exploitative work that is morally acceptable to others.
